The End Of It All, Part Three

Since Universal was too far to get back to Earth to get Dragen, Tinker went to his second option. “Contact the Ten Heroes.”

If Tinker considered Universal as a cosmically powered threat, the Ten Heroes were mystically powered threats. They were such a mystery the only thing he knew for sure was there were usually ten of them. A few years ago there was some sort of upheaval and two of them weren’t seen for months. Then they appeared, just slightly different.

As Tinker gave the order, he realized someone was standing behind him. he heard a slightly metallic voice. “Why not us? We’re ready and willing.”

Without turning around, Tinker recognized the voice of Sound Freeq, the field leader of the Wielders. The man was almost sixty and was still the first one in armor. His battle helmet was open, but his mouth was covered by a device nicknamed The Whistle. It was an alien artifact that gave him his powers. He was stronger and faster than most people, but the whistle also gave him the ability to emit a powerful blast of sound that could tear through a wall.

Tinker wasn’t surprised he would was the first to appear. Whenever there was an all hands on deck situation, he wanted to be up front. Normally, since a position as a Wielder was a lifetime gig and he had already been one for parts of four decades, he spent most of his time working with the Fulfill-A-Dream Society or doing PR work for the team. He had slowed down drastically in recent years, but his will and enthusiasm was still strong. Tinker didn’t like being harsh with the older man, but he had to be at times. “No.” was all he said.

The image on the giant monitor changed as Operator One pulled back the view. Dragen had been joined by two flying men. Everyone in the room recognized him immediately. One was a creature of pure light and energy. He was known as The Wonder. The other was dressed in all teal with a shimmering yellow cape. He was Paragon. These two were the strongest members of the Heroes League, the most popular group of heroes on the planet. Even though he was in charge of the Wielders, Tinker felt the Heroes League was the only real chance Earth had if Universal or The Ten Heroes went crazy.

“See?” Tinker said with no emotion to his voice. “The Heroes League has arrived on scene.”
